Goodbye, Harry....

Harry Patch, the UK's last surrivor of the First World War, has died at the age of 111. Mr Patch was conscripted into the Army aged 18 and fought in the third battle of Ypres (the battle of Passchendaele) in 1917, in which more than 70,000 British soldiers perished.
The sole British survivor of World War I is Claude Choules, 108, who served with the Royal Navy during the conflict and now lives in Perth, Australia.
WWI veteran Patch dies aged 111

With the passing of Harry Patch, so soon after the recent death of 113 year-old Henry Allingham, the oldest WWI veteran who served in the Royal Navy and the RAF, a period of our history is also passing from living memory.

Rest in peace Harry and Henry....you both deserve it. In an era where annoying reality tv stars and overpaid footballers can achieve instant celebrity status, These men were genuine heroes, the last of a bygone generation, to whom this country owes a huge debt of gratitude.
