A monopoly by any other name...


29 August 2009:
News Corporation and BSkyB chairman James Murdoch launches a scathing attack on the BBC, saying that a "dominant" BBC threatens independent journalism in the UK. Mr Murdoch also accused the BBC of launching a land grab at the expense of its commercial rivals, and said the scale of its activities and ambitions was "chilling".

BSkyB is to close Bravo and general entertainment station Channel One, putting more than 50 jobs at risk, as part of the integration of Living TV Group.
BSkyB has decided to focus on the Living TV channel portfolio, which will see a 25% boost to its programming budget, and the gameshow and quiz channel Challenge.
