Friday Morning report

Went out yesterday, to try out the new boat and see what was biting. Headed to Center ville boat ramp to fish the Atchfalaya Basin. Started off raining so detoured to the grandparents house. After a cup of coffee, a banana and the rain slacking figured it was time to head out. Stopped in Jeanerette at local bait shop and picked up some Beckey Jigs # 1050 and Berkley nibblets (chartreuse color), these hair jigs are one of my favorites for some sacalait. After launching the boat, pointed the bow to one of my favorite areas to fish, cypress island. Started off fishing some bass on top water, black buzz bait with neon green trailer, caught 2 small bass. After about 30 minutes switched to chartreuse 3/8oz double colorodo, gold blade spinner bait, Had a few short hits but fish didn't completely cooperate. Usually when this happens you want to slow down and throw a crank bait wide bill. This was a proven method in the previous Bass masters classic in which Kevin Vandam made the switch on the second day to a crank bait due to short hits on spinner bait, in which the outcome was he not only placed 1st but he also set a new record of any bass masters classic with a little over 69 pounds. Not bad considering those 15 fish netted him 500,000 dollars. Well after switching to the crank bait I managed to catch a few more small bass and a nice sacalait. Usually when this happens its a good chance the ol becky jig will put some fish in the boat. I put the crank bait down and went to the jig. Again fish did not cooperate, didn't even get a bite. After about an hour or so I decided to make a move and head to the end of the canal against the lilies. Usually when the wind is blowing against the lilies it piles up the bait fish underneath, dropped the jig, bam about a 3 lb blue cat. After putting him in the chest I managed to pick up some sacailait, brim, and bass. All on the same #1050 Beckey Jig tipped with a Berkley nibblet chartreuse color. After fishing for about 4 hours I ended up heading back with a decent catch of 15 sacaliat a couple brim and 2 bass and 1 nice cat fish. All and all not a bad day, considering the water is on the rise.
