Stargate Universe

Ok - so we now have Stargate Universe...

I was a big fan of the original SG-1 (Jack O'Neill, Sam Carter, Daniel Jackson, and Teal'c). While Ben Browder, Beau Bridges and Claudia Black were worthy additions to the SG-1 mythos, the series wasn't really the same after the exit of General George S. Hammond (the late, great Don S. Davis) from the series.
I didn't really get into Stargate Atlantis but from the episodes I saw, it seemed almost as enjoyable as SG-1, and I felt the Stargate TV movies could have been much better (especially Stargate: Continuum).
But watching the premiere of Stargate Universe, I was bored to tears. It's obviously Stargate meets Star Trek: Voyager & the new Battlestar Galactica, with the result that it didn't feel like Stargate at all. It's adult, dark and edgy - but where is the chemistry; where is the fun? I can't see the SG-U cast being as funny as SG-1 was, and without the humour, Stargate Universe will be just another flashy, "edgy" but boring Sci-Fi series.
Good points: seeing Lieutenant General Jack O'Neill & Colonel Samantha Carter; Dr Daniel Jackson's "Stargate for Beginners" videos; the starship "USS George Hammond" (nice touch).
Overall, it's much too early to judge the series after only the opening two episodes, but Stargate Universe will have to get better than this...
